Fact check: Old video of Union minister Nitin Gadkari’s comments on then PM is back again

Old video of Union Minister Nitin Gadkari on Anna Hazare and the then PM Dr Manmohan Singh recirculates ahead of General elections 2024. He did not speak against PM Narendra Modi. Viral claims are false.

Lighthouse Journalism found a video of Union minister Nitin Gadkari, who is contesting for Lok Sabha elections from Nagpur. In the video Gadkari is seen saying that the statement by the Prime Minister is against democracy. He is also seen saying that protesting against the corrupt politicians is a constitutional right. He is not seen taking the name of the Prime Minister in the video. The video is being circulated on social media platforms ahead of elections. However, during the investigation, we found that the video is 12 years-old.

X user Abha Chaudhary shared the video on her profile.

Other users too are sharing the video with similar claims.

Investigation:

We started the investigation by checking the comment section of the video. Several users had written in the comment section that the video is old.

Since reverse image search did not yield any results, we then did a Google keyword search.

Through keyword search we found a video uploaded by the official YouTube channel of Bharatiya Janata Party.

The video was uploaded 12 years ago.

The title of the video said: BJP Byte: Anna Hazare & Prime Minister: 15.08.2011

In 2011, the Prime Minister of India was Dr Manmohan Singh.

We also found a few news reports about his statement.

Conclusion: Old video of Union Minister Nitin Gadkari on Anna Hazare and the then PM Dr Manmohan Singh recirculates ahead of General elections 2024. He did not speak against PM Narendra Modi. Viral claims are false.
