Lighthouse Journalism came across a video of Bollywood actor Aamir Khan being widely shared on social media platforms. In the video he is seen saying that everyone in the country must have a sum of 15 lakh rupees in their accounts, if they don’t have this amount it is time to question where did it go. The post was being used to promote the political party, Congress. During the investigation we found that the viral video is fake and made using the AI generated voice of Aamir Khan.

Investigation:
We started our investigation by a Google reverse image search on the keyframes obtained from the video.
Through this we found out that the video is a promo of Satyamev Jayate, episode 4 promo.
This video was posted on the YouTube channel of Satyamev Jayate seven years ago. No where he is seen talking about 15 lakh rupees.
We extracted the audio from this viral video and ran it through itisaar.ai, an AI detection tool developed in collaboration with IIT Jodhpur. The report obtained after the analysis of this audio stated that the audio is an ‘AI generated voice swap’.
We also found a news report where Aamir Khan has responded to the viral video.
Aamir Khan’s spokesperson was quoted in the story, he said, “We are alarmed by the recent viral video alleging that Aamir Khan is promoting a particular political party. He would like to clarify that this is a fake video and totally untrue. He has reported the matter to various authorities related to this issue, including filing an FIR with the Cyber Crime Cell of the Mumbai Police“.
Conclusion: Edited video of Aamir Khan, where his original video was overlapped by AI generated voice is being widely shared on social media platforms. Viral claim of him endorsing Congress is fake.
