Lighthouse Journalism found an image being widely shared on social media platforms. The posts claimed that the image showed the 2017 Unnao rape case accused BJP leader Kuldeep Singh Sengar. On December 23, the Delhi High Court suspended the life sentence for the accused.
During the investigation we found that the image was generated using Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools.
Claim:
Instagram user Naglot Ram Singh Meena shared the AI generated image.
Other users are also sharing the same image with similar claims.
Investigation:
We started the investigation by running a reverse image search, through which we found several similar images posted on the social media platforms by other users.
We then closely analysed the picture and it it looked sharp with the text on the placard not making any sense. This suggested that the image is AI-generated.
An AI watermark can also be seen at the bottom right corner which suggests that the image is made using Google’s Gemini.
After running the image through AI detectors we found that the image was made using AI tools.
decopy.ai suggested a 66 % AI probability, whereas HIVE Moderation suggested a 99.9 % chance of the image being made through AI.
Conclusion: The viral image suggesting that Unnao rape accused Kuldeep Sengar was welcomed with garlands outside Tihar jail is not real. The image was made using AI tools. the viral image is fake.
