Fact check: Viral video showing a flyover is not from India, but from China

Video of a flyover being widely shared claiming to be from several places in India is from Chongqing, China. Viral claims are false.

Lighthouse journalism found a video being shared on social media platforms, which showed vehicles moving on a flyover. It was claimed that the video is from India. During the investigation it was found that the video is neither from Gujarat nor Rajasthan as claimed by various social media users. The video is from China.

Claim:

Facebook user Shimmy Parambath shared the viral video on their profile and wrote, “Modi’s guarantee, Gujarat”.

Other users too are sharing the video claiming it to be from India.

Investigation:

We started our investigation by downloading the video and uploading it in the InVid tool. Through this we derived various keyframes.

We then ran a reverse image search on all the keyframes one by one.

We found a picture on the stock images website, Alamy.

We also found the video in a news report.

The report mentioned: Standing 72 meters high, Sujiaba Overpass is the highest city ramp bridge in China. Its spiral design looks like a breath-taking roller coaster.

We also found the video on an Instagram profile, which featured the flyover as an architectural marvel.

Several videos available confirmed that the video being shared widely as that from India is actually from China.
