Fact check: Viral video of road collapse is not from India

The viral video depicting a road collapse is not from India but is an old incident from Turkey. The viral claims are misleading.

Amid reports of landslides and heavy rainfall in various parts of the country, Lighthouse Journalism discovered a video showing a road cave-in, which was purportedly from India. During our investigation, we determined that the viral claims are misleading and that the video is actually from Turkey.

Claim:

X user Rajiv Tyagi shared the viral video on his profile with a misleading claim.

Investigation:

We started our investigation by obtaining the screenshots from the video and then ran a reverse image search on these screenshots.

It was through reverse image search on one of the keyframes, we found the same video uploaded on Facebook page of TV Teuta on 12 October 2023.

The caption mentioned: Deti i Zi (Karadeniz) Turqi

This suggests that the video is from Turkey.

We also found a video on redd.tube.

The video was titled: Landslide right at the end of a tunnel at Ordu in Turkey | 10 July 2023

The source was tagged on reddit.com.

We also found a video of this incident on the YouTube channel of World Events News uploaded a year ago.

We also found a news report during the reverse image search that confirmed that the video is from Turkey.

Conclusion: The viral video depicting a road collapse is not from India but is an old incident from Turkey. The viral claims are misleading.
