Lighthouse Journalism found a video being widely shared on social networking platforms. It was claimed along with the video that a teenager from Muzaffarpur in Bihar named Avnish Kumar has built a plane in a week using only junk material. The plane was built for just Rs 7000.
However, during the investigation, we found that the video is from Bangladesh and not from India. The viral claim is false.
Claim:
X user Shruti Dhore shared the video with a false claim.
Other users are also sharing the same video.
Investigation:
We started the investigation by running a reverse image search on the keyframes obtained from the video.
This led us to a Facebook video uploaded on 9th March by page, “কৃষাণ টিভি“.
The text in the caption stated: The plane of the farmer’s son, Julhas, took to the sky again in front of thousands of people.
We then ran a keyword search. This led us to the same video uploaded on YouTube.
We also found a news report about the same.
The report was titled: Airplane built by farmer’s son takes to the skies
A man named Julhas Rahman has made an ultra-light plane in Shivalay, Manikganj and has impressed everyone with his flying. A crowd of people gathered on the banks of the Jamuna in Jafarganj upazila on Tuesday (March 4) morning in the presence of the Deputy Commissioner to watch the flight. Julhas Rahman (28), son of farmer Jalil Molla of Bilpara village in Teota union.
Upon search, we found that Jafarganj is a sub-district (upazila) located in Comilla District, Bangladesh
We also found several reports about the same.
We also did a Google search on the viral claim and found that no media reports stated that a boy from Bihar has constructed the said plane.
Conclusion: The viral video claiming to show a Bihar boy building and flying a plane is actually from Bangladesh. The viral claim is false.
