Lighthouse Journalism found a video being shared widely on social media platforms. The video shows a spat between a policewoman and two goons. The men are offering a bribe while the woman refuses it. Along with the video, the incident was claimed to be from Uttar Pradesh.
During the investigation, we found that the video was scripted, and no such incident happened in Uttar Pradesh.
Claim:
X user @nityaa78 shared the video with a false claim.
Other users are also sharing the video with a similar claim.
Investigation:
We started the investigation by running a reverse image search on the keyframes obtained from the video, excluding the text over it.
We found the same video uploaded on the YouTube channel ‘Amit Dixit Social Message’ over two weeks ago.
At the beginning of the video, a disclaimer flashes on the screen, stating that the characters shown in the video are imaginary.
The channel we saw had over 35.6K subscribers.
We clicked on the Facebook page link mentioned on the YouTube channel. The page was titled, ‘beauty of nature’ and had over 93K followers.
We found the same video on this page, too.
Conclusion: Scripted video of a policewoman arguing with men shared as a real incident from Uttar Pradesh. The viral claim is false.
