Lighthouse Journalism found a few pictures of cricketer Mohammed Siraj. In the pictures he was seen offering prayers on the field before the match. Some users claimed that the picture was from Saurashtra Stadium in Rajkot.
During the investigation we found that the images were AI-generated.
Claim:
Instagram user Mohammed Abdul Aziz shared the image.
Other users were also sharing the similar picture with similar claims.
Investigation:
We started our investigation by running a combination of keyword search and reverse image search. We could not find any credible news reports of this act going viral.
We then closely observed the viral pictures. These appeared to have been created using AI tools. The blur background and a few anomalies gave away that the images were AI-generated.
We then ran both these images through AI content detectors.
Hive Moderation suggested that the images were AI-generated.
Another AI image detector, undetectable AI, also concluded that the image was AI generated.
Conclusion: The images showing Mohammed Siraj offering prayers before a cricket match on field are generated using Artificial Intelligence (AI). The viral images are fake.
