Fact Check: Old Pakistan flood video falsely shared as from India

An Old video from Pakistan showing several people, part of the same family, being swept during a flash flood in the middle of the Swat River is being falsely shared as that of India. The viral claim is false.

Lighthouse Journalism found a video being widely shared in India. The video was linked to the recent flood-like situation in India. Users claimed it to be from Punjab and Uttarakhand, claiming that an entire family was swept away in floods while waiting for help.

During the investigation, we found that the video is old and from Pakistan, which is being falsely linked to India.

Claim:

X user Indrajeet Gurjar shared the video on his profile with false claim.

Other users are also sharing the video, claiming it is from India.

Investigation:

We initiated the investigation by conducting a reverse image search on the keyframes extracted from the video.

We found a reel uploaded in July on Instagram. The caption stated that the video was from Pakistan.

We found a news report on theworldwatch.com.

The report said: At least nine tourists drowned while six others are missing after the gushing Swat River swept away 18 people, including 10 members of a family, in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Friday. Rescue teams pulled three people alive from the river.

We also found the news report on the YouTube channel of Awaaz India uploaded over two months ago.

Domel News also had uploaded a report about the same.

We also found a video report uploaded by Al Jazeera on June 27, 2025.

Conclusion: An Old video from Pakistan showing several people, part of the same family, being swept during a flash flood in the middle of the Swat River is being falsely shared as that of India. The viral claim is false.
