Lighthouse Journalism found a widely shared video. The video features Samajwadi Party members being lathi-charged. The video was shared with several claims. Some social media users claimed it was recent, while others claimed it was from a protest in Noida or from CJP protests.
During the investigation, Lighthouse Journalism found that the video was from 2020.
Claim:
X user @LegalAdvisour shared a screenshot of the video with a misleading claim.
Another X user, @Sourav32s, shared it, claiming it was recent footage of workers protesting in Noida Phase 2, demanding a minimum wage of Rs 20,000 and an 8-hour shift.
One YouTube channel shared it, claiming the video was linked to recent Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) protests.
Several users are sharing the video with similar claims.
Investigation:
We started our investigation by running a reverse image search on the keyframes obtained from the video. The video was being shared on several social media platforms with misleading claims.
Through reverse image search we found a few keyframes in a video uploaded by official Facebook page of Samajwadi Party on 1 October 2020.

Through a relevant keyword search, we found an image on shutterstock.com.

The caption of the photo said: Samajwadi Party Workers Protest In Hathras Demanding Justice For Gangrape Victim, Uttar Pradesh, India. Samajwadi party workers detained on NH 93 while trying to reach the Hathras gang rape victim’s house on October 1, 2020 in Hathras, India. Several Samajwadi Party workers were detained by the Uttar Pradesh Police on Thursday after they staged a protest in Hathras demanding justice for the 19-year old gangrape victim who succumbed to assault
There were also news reports about the incident.
Conclusion: An old video of Samajwadi Party (SP) workers protesting in Uttar Pradesh and being detained by police officials is being shared as recent. The viral claim is misleading.
