Lighthouse Journalism found a video being widely shared on social media platforms. It was being claimed that the video is recent from the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) protest at New Delhi.
The video featured a Delhi policeman taking away a Palestine flag from the protester. During the investigation we found that the video is from a 2023 pro-Palestine protest.
Claim:
X user ferrari shared the viral video as recent on his profile.
Other users are also sharing the same video as recent.
Investigation:
We started the investigation by running a reverse image search on the keyframes obtained from the viral video. One of the suggestions on the Google search suggested that the video is from 2023.
On the top right corner of the video, the watermark said: Journo Mirror.
We then did a simple Google keyword search, “Journo Mirror Palestine”.
Through this, we found the YouTube channel of “Journo Mirror”, a search using keyword, “Palestine” led us to a video uploaded over two years ago.
At around 13 mins the viral visuals can be seen.
The video was uploaded on, Oct 28, 2023.
We also found a news report about this protest on the website of National Herald.
The report said: The demonstrators raised “Free Palestine” slogans, demanding immediate ceasefire between the two countries which have been locked in conflict since Hamas’ attack on Israel on 7 October . Since then thousands have been killed by Israel’s retaliatory strikes.
Conclusion: Old and unrelated video from 2023 shared as recent from CJP Protest at Jantar Mantar, New Delhi. The viral claim is misleading.
