Old video of Ukraine’s attack on Russia’s oil refinery is being shared as recent from Iran – Israel conflict. The viral claim is misleading.

Amid renewed airstrikes between Tel Aviv and Tehran on Wednesday, a human rights group has said that Israeli strikes on Iran have killed at least 585 people and wounded 1,326 others, Associated Press reported. Israeli authorities and President Trump have claimed that Israel has full control over Iran’s skies. Iran says that it hit a major intelligence center in Tel Aviv, with Israeli sources confirming that there have been hits on civilian and military targets.

Amidst these reports, a video is being widely shared on social media platforms, claiming to show recent destruction in Tel Aviv. During the investigation, we found that the video was old and from Russia.

Claim:

Other users are also sharing the same video with misleading claim.

Investigation:

We started the by running a reverse image search on the keyframes obatined from the video.

We found the video and the keyframes from the same on several websites.

The news reports stated: Late in the evening on Thursday, January 23, strike drones launched a massive attack on an oil refinery in the Russian city of Ryazan. Russian air defense attempted to repel the attack, but the facility was hit. Local residents reported on social media hearing at least 10 loud explosions, followed by fires.

The video was posted on January 24, 2025.

We also found a video report about the incident of the YouTube channel of The Guardian.

The description said: People were seen running from a burning oil refinery after reports of a drone attack in the Ryazan region, south-east of Moscow.
