Lighthouse Journalism found a video being widely shared on social media platforms. The video of the bombing was claimed to be footage released by Al Jazeera of an attack by the Indian Army on Sialkot, in Pakistan.
During the investigation, we found that the video is old and from Gaza and not from Pakistan.
Claim:
X user @tauqeer1632003 shared the video with the misleading claim.
Other users are also sharing the same video with a similar claim.
Investigation:
We started our investigation by uploading the video to the InVid tool and running a reverse image search on the keyframes obtained from it.
We found the screenshot of the video on the website nrttv.com.
The article used the viral video and said: Israeli forces have intensively bombed an area near an Indonesian hospital in the Gaza Strip.
We also found this video on a post on X on June 15, 2024.
We found the screenshot in another article published on November 11, 2023. The report said: According to the Palestinian news agency WAFA, the areas around Shifaa and Indonesian hospitals, Rimal, Sheikh Radwan and Nasr neighborhoods in northwestern Gaza, and houses where civilians live in the Al-Shati Refugee Camp were hit by Israeli aircraft and artillery.
We also found a news article about the same on Al Jazeera.
We also found the video posted on nicovideo.jp, a Japanese website. The video was titled “Close-range bombing in Gaza Strip.” It was uploaded in 2023.
We also found the same screenshots on khabarfoori.com.
The report said: The Al Jazeera reporter’s camera, which was at the entrance to the hospital, managed to cover several explosions live, and people were seen fleeing inside the hospital to escape the bombing.
Conclusion: Old video of bombing by Israel in the Gaza Strip is being falsely shared as recent as the Indian Army’s firing in Sialkot, Pakistan. The viral claim is misleading.
