Fact check: Viral video showing cheetah and a snake is AI-generated

The viral video featuring Cheetahs saving a lady attacked by a snake is AI-generated. The viral video is fake.

Lighthouse Journalism came across a viral video circulating across multiple social media platforms. The clip depicts a dramatic sequence where a python-like snake appears to attack a woman, only for the cheetah to heroically turn on the snake and save her.

However, our investigation reveals that the video is not real. It is AI-generated and digitally fabricated to appear lifelike.

Claim:

X user VDM shared the video on his profile.

Other users are also sharing the video with the same claim.

Investigation:

There were several clues in the video that suggest that the video was AI-generated.

When the snake jumps on the lady, the two visuals merge, clearly depicting that the video could be AI-generated.

The sharpness of the visuals is also another clue.

We then uploaded the video to the AI detection tool, HIVE Moderation. This gave an aggregate score of 99.8 % and identified the video as AI-generated.

Conclusion: The viral video featuring Cheetahs saving a lady attacked by a snake is AI-generated. The viral video is fake.
