Viral video of woman beaten on camera is not recent, not from Sandeshkhali. Old video from 2018 of a BJP supporter being attacked by a TMC leader, being shared with false claims.

Amid the violence-hit Sandeshkhali area of North 24 Parganas district, several pictures and videos are being widely shared on social media platforms. One such video is that of a woman being beaten, while she is being interviewed by a journalist. After an investigation, it was found that the video is not recent and is not related to the recent ongoing crisis in Sandeshkhali.

Claim:

X user LonerMonkey shared the viral video on his profile.

Other users too are sharing the same video.

Investigation:

We started our investigation by running a reverse image search on the screenshots obtained from the video.

After running a reverse image search we came across a tweet by X user Keya Ghosh.

The tweet mentioned that the lady seen in the video is Nilima Dr Sarkar. We then did a Google search on the terms from the caption.

We then found various news reports about the same.

The report was published on October 01, 2018. We also found more news reports about the incident. The reports also mentioned that the incident took place in West Bengal’s Barasat.

The video was also uploaded on the YouTube channel of NDTV.
