Lighthouse Journalism found a post being widely circulated on the social media platforms, the post included a newspaper clipping which highlighted a date too. The title suggested, IIT student accused of rape. The name highlighted in the copy was that of Arvind Kejriwal. During the investigation we found the viral claim and the newspaper clipping to be fake.

X user Dr Anita Vladivoski shared the newspaper clipping on her profile.

Investigation:

We started our investigation by running a Google keyword search and checking if there were any news reports like this in the past, especially in The Telegraph.

We did not find any news reports regarding the same.

We then noticed that the newspaper clipping did not look real.

We then searched for a few online newspaper clipping generators and found the one that was used to make this newspaper clipping.

On this newspaper clipping generator, one can change the name of the newspaper, date, headline and even space to enter the story.

We did not find the details of any such criminal case against him in the affidavit submitted during the General Election 2013.

During the research we also found that this claim has been on several social media platforms since the year 2016.
