Fact check: Old, unrelated visuals go viral as India-Pakistan conflict escalates

Viral visuals claimed to be from recent India and Pakistan conflict are old and unrelated to the incidents. The viral claims are misleading.

Indian defence forces, early on Friday morning thwarted another attempt by Pakistan to target Jammu city with drones and other ammunition. Earlier, Pakistan had launched a major cross-border attack, neutralised by the Indian Armed Forces.

Amidst conflict, several unrelated visuals are being widely shared on social media platforms, falsely linking them to the current events.

Claim1:

X user @tex4d had shared a video claiming the footage featured an Indian Kamikaze drone in action at Lahore, Pakistan.

Several other users also shared the same video.

Investigation:

We started the investigation by running a reverse image search on the keyframes obtained from the viral video.

We found the video posted a week ago, claiming it was from the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

The video uploaded YouTube Channel Military Tube Today stated that the video was originally uploaded on the internet on April 30, 2025.

This suggested that the video was unrelated to the India-Pakistan conflict.

Claim 2:

A video was shared by the Instagram handle Bablu Vardhan claiming that the video was from Sialkot.

Other users on other social media platforms are also circulating the same video.

Investigation:

We ran a reverse image search on the keyframes obtained from the video. We found the video uploaded a month ago on YouTube, stating it was from a gas cylinder blast in Mumbai’s Dharavi.

We found the video uploaded on the Facebook page of Gulf Digital News too.

There were several news reports about the incident.

Claim 3:

X user Jitendra Pratap Singh shared an image, saying thatit was the first photo of a Pakistani fighter pilot captured by India.

Other users are also sharing the same image.

Investigation:

We ran a reverse image search on the image and found it on a Turkish media website, maalilm.postimees.ee

The picture is from 2016.

Claim 4:

X user Arpita Chatterjee shared a video featuring rockets, claiming this was India’s response to Pakistan.

Several other social media users are circulating the same video.

Investigation:

We ran a reverse image search on the keyframes obtained from the video and found the video posted on the YouTube channel of Compared Comparison.

The video was uploaded three years ago and was said to be from Arma 3, a video game.

Conclusion: Viral visuals claimed to be from recent India and Pakistan conflict are old and unrelated to the incidents. The viral claims are misleading.
