Fact check: Old, unrelated video from Nepal shared as recent from India

Old video of Nepali Army personnel hurt in an accident, being shared with a misleading claim of that of Indian soldiers hurt in the truck overturn. The viral claim is misleading.

Lighthouse Journalism found a video being widely shared on social media platforms. The video showed a truck carrying soldiers being overturned. It was claimed that the video was from India.

During the investigation we found that the video was not from India but from Nepal and was being shared with misleading claims.

Claim:

Instagram user Soniya shared the video with a misleading claim on her profile.

Other users were also sharing the same video with misleading claims.

Investigation:

We started the investigation using a reverse image search on the keyframes obtained from the video.

We found similar keyframes on a Facebook post.

The caption of the post said: Sad news: 16 soldiers injured in a truck accident of Nepali army near Churiyamai, Makwanpur. Police say 3 among the injured are in critical condition.

We then did a keyword search as mentioned in the caption.

We found the news about the same on Nepali news portals.

The news reports from 16 September, 2025 mentioned: As many as 16 Nepali Army personnel were hurt after the army’s truck met with an accident in Churiyamai area of Hetauda Sub-metropolitan City-15 on Tuesday. Three of them are in serious condition. The injured are being treated at Hetaunda Hospital.

Hetaunda sub-metropolitan city-15 and Simra sub-metropolitan city-22 in Churiamai No. 2 Rajdal Gana going from Tanahun to Dhanusha under the command of Sub-Senani Harsh Vikram Adhikari, out of the 4 trucks of the Nepali Army, Lu 1 C 280 truck from the bridge  The soldiers were injured when they fell into the hole.

We also found the video uploaded on Facebook.

Conclusion: Old video of Nepali Army personnel hurt in an accident, being shared with a misleading claim of that of Indian soldiers hurt in the truck overturn. The viral claim is misleading.
