Fact check: Ratan Tata did not gift bullet proof buses to the Indian Army, viral claim is false

Ratan Tata did not gift a bullet proof bus to the Indian Army. The viral image is of Midhani group’s armoured bus which were handed over to Central Reserve Police Force in 2017.

Lighthouse Journalism came across a post being widely shared on the social media platforms, which claimed that Ratan Tata has donated bullet proof buses to the Indian Army.

Upon investigation it was found that the viral claim is false.

Claim:

Facebook user Aditya Creator, posted a reel on his profile which stated that Ratan Tata had recently made bullet and bomb proof buses for the Indian Army.

Other users too are sharing the same claim.

Investigation:

We started our investigation by doing a reverse image search on the given image.

The reverse image search led us to a Facebook post.

This post mentioned that MIDHANI Group’s Armoured Bus were handed over to the Central Reserve Police Force. The post was made on 9th September, 2017.

We also did a keyword search on Twitter. This led us to a few posts, one including that of the CRPF Twitter page.

Another tweet was by the CMD of Midhani group.

The posts mentioned that a Bhabha Kavach which is a light weight bullet jacket was also handed over by Midhani to CRPF.

The posts were shared in 2017.

We have reached out to the TATA Trusts through email, the fact check copy will be updated once we get a response to the same.

Conclusion: Ratan Tata did not gift a bullet proof bus to the Indian Army. The viral image is of Midhani group’s armoured bus which were handed over to Central Reserve Police Force in 2017.
