Lighthouse Journalism came across a video of a support rally being claimed to be taken out in support of the farmers for the ongoing farmers’ protest. During the investigation we found out that the viral video is not related to the farmers’ protest. The video is old from 2017.
Claim:
X user jp poonia shared the video on his profile.
Other users too are sharing the video with the same claim.
Investigation:
We started our investigation by uploading the video in the InVid tool and getting several keyframes. Reverse image search on one of the keyframes, led us to the same video which was uploaded on a YouTube channel 5 years ago.
This clearly means that the video is not connected to the recent farmers’ protest.
We got one more video through reverse image search on another keyframe.
This video was posted on Facebook by user Babulal Nagar on 1st July, 2017, Babulal Nagar is a former minister from Rajasthan.
The caption of the video mentioned that the rally was taken out on 29th July, 2017 in Jaipur.
Through keyword search we found another video posted on YouTube account Dinesh Nagar over 6 years ago, where it was mentioned in the description that the rally was taken out by Babulal Nagar in Jaipur.
In the next step of investigation we contacted former Rajasthan minister, Babulal Nagar. He informed that this rally was taken out in the year 2017, in Jaipur to address the issues of farmers, especially for loan waiver of farmers. He informed that the video of the same was then shared on his Facebook page. He also clarified that he has not shared any video of the rally recently.
Conclusion: Video of a rally in support of farmers taken out in Jaipur, Rajasthan in 2017 goes viral as recent, related to the ongoing farmers’ protest. Viral claim is fake.
