Old, unrelated video from Bhiwandi is being shared as recent claiming to show an attack on BJP workers over UGC regulations. The viral claim is misleading.

The Supreme Court recently ordered that the University Grants Commission (Promotion of Equity in Higher Education Institutions) Regulations 2026 be kept in abeyance.

The Court also expressed certain reservations about the Regulations, which are being challenged as discriminatory towards the general category.

Amidst this a video is being widely shared on social media platforms, where it was being claimed that people attacked BJP workers over UGC Regulations.

Claim:

X user Ritu shared the viral video with a misleading claim.

Investigation:

We started the investigation by running a reverse image search on the keyframes obtained from the video. This led us to a video posted on X.

The caption with the video suggested that the video was from Bhiwandi.

We found similar video posted on other profiles.

A video of the same was also shared by ANI.

We also found a news report about the same.

The news report uploaded on 19 January mentioned: A major political clash broke out, and police resorted to a lathi-charge following an alleged life-threatening attack on the former mayor and Konark Vikas Aghadi’s victorious candidate, Vilas R Patil at his bungalow in Bhiwandi.
