Lighthouse Journalism found a video being widely shared on social media platforms where Prime Minister Narendra Modi was seen offering a chadar at a tomb. It was being claimed in several posts that the video was of his visit to a dargah.
During the investigation, we found that the video is from 2018 and of his visit to Kabir Samadhi Sthal.
Claim:
X user A. K. Tiwari adv shared the video on his profile with false claims.
Other users are also sharing the video with similar claims.
Investigation:
We started the investigation by running a reverse image search on the keyframes obtained from the viral after uploading it to the InVid tool.
We found a video on the YouTube channel of ANI News
The caption stated: PM Modi, UP CM Yogi visit Kabir Samadhi Sthal – Uttar Pradesh News. The video was uploaded on June 28, 2018.
We also found several news reports about the same.
The reports mentioned: Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Kabir Samadhi Sthal in Uttar Pradesh’s Sant Kabir Nagar on Thursday. He was accompanied by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. PM Modi arrived in Lucknow today to attend multiple events in Sant Kabir Nagar district’s Maghar town.
Conclusion: An old video of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath visiting the Kabir Samadhi Sthal in 2018 is now viral as recent. The viral claim is misleading.
