Fact check: Old photo of Jagannath Rath yatra shared as people on streets, protesting Kejriwal’s arrest

AAP national convenor and New Delhi CM, Arvind Kejriwal was arrested by ED on March 21 in connection with a money-laundering case related to the now-scrapped excise policy. Lighthouse Journalism amidst the calls for gherao and protests found a post being widely shared on social media platforms. An image on X depicted a huge crowd on the streets, it was being claimed along with the image that this picture showed a crowd on the streets of Chennai against Arvind Kejriwal’s arrest. During the investigation we found the viral claim to be false. The image is from the streets of Puri, Odisha.

We found the image on wikimedia.

The source of the same led to the X handle of Naveen Patnaik.

The picture was also used in several media reports.
