Investigation:

We started the investigation by running a reverse image search on the keyframes obtained from the video.

We found a video of this press conference.

It is the first part of this conference that was clipped and has been shared with wrong context since a year.

Earlier in the conference, Atishi starts with statement that the subsidy of over 46 lakh families will be stopped by Delhi’s AAP governemnt. She then says that people will start receiving bill with increased rates.

However, later in the video Atishi Marlena says, Delhi’s Kejriwal government has decided to continue the subsidy, but the file is still with the LG (Lieutnant Governor of Delhi). Till the Delhi government gets the file back, the Kejriwal governnmment will not be able to release the amount of subsidy.

Several news media outlets had also covered this press conference.

One news report mentioned: Hours after Delhi’s power minister, Atishi, declared at a press conference on Friday that the power subsidy in the city will stop as the LG was yet to clear the file, Raj Niwas said the LG had signed the file a day before and sent it to the chief minister on Friday, well before Atishi made her claim.

We also found a post by AAP official handle on the press conference. The video was tweeted on April 14, 2023.
