Lighthouse Journalism found a video being widely shared on social media platforms. It was claimed along with the video that a few Indian tourists, washed their clothes at the Friendship of Nations Fountain in Moscow.
During the investigation we found that the video is AI-generated and the viral claim is fake.
Claim:
Instagram user instanews_big shared the viral video with claim stating, “In Moscow, some Indians decided to do their laundry directly in the fountain at VDNKh.”

Other users are also sharing the same video with similar claims.
Investigation:
We started the investigation by running a reverse image search on the keyframes obtained from the video.
This led us to a similar video uploaded on YouTube channel KOMETA on April 5, 2026.
The caption said: Indians at VDNKh climbed into a fountain and started washing clothes.
However the tag clearly stated that the video was made using Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools.

We then downloaded the video and ran it through the AI content detector HIVE Moderation.

The results suggested that the video was made using AI tools and was 99.9 % likely to be AI-generated.
Conclusion: The viral video claiming Indian tourists washed their clothes at Russian fountain is fake. The viral video is AI-generated.
