Lighthouse Journalism found a video of flooding being widely shared on social media platforms. The video shows people distributing food. It was being claimed that the video shows a situation from the flooding in Punjab.
During the investigation, we found that the video is not from Punjab, India, but from Bangladesh.
Claim:
Instagram user Mazhar Khan shared the video on his profile.

Other social media users are also sharing the same video with similar claims that it is from India.
Investigation:
We started the investigation by running a reverse image search on the keyframes obtained from the video.
We found the video uploaded on August 27, 2024, on Instagram.

The caption of the reel was in the Bangla language.
We also found this video uploaded on Bangla Vision News’ Facebook page on August 25, 2024. This is a page of a Bangladesh-based media house.

The caption said: Madrasa students came forward again for the needs of the country. They are delivering the relief aid in water up to the chest.
We also found the video uploaded to a YouTube channel based in Bangladesh. The video was uploaded a year ago.
The description said: Hujurra arrived with food for the people trapped in the flood
Conclusion: An old video from Bangladesh of food distribution during flooding, shared as recent from Punjab. The viral claim is misleading.
