Fact check: Viral video showing explosion not related to Russia-Ukraine war

The viral video claimed to show Russia’s attacks on Ukraine is a video of a massive fire at Al Hamriya Port in Sharjah. The viral claim is misleading.

Lighthouse Journalism found a video that is being widely shared on social media platforms. The video showcased explosions and flames of fire. Users claimed that it shows Russia intensifying attacks on Ukraine.

During the investigation, we found that the video is not related to the Russia-Ukraine war.

Claim:

X user Manoj Singh shared the video with a misleading claim.

Other users are also sharing the same video with similar claims.

Investigation:

We started the investigation by running a reverse image search on the keyframes obtained from the video.

We found a post on X stating that the video was from the UAE.

While doing the keyword search, we found the video on the Facebook page of The Peninsula Qatar posted three days ago.

The caption said: A massive fire broke out early today at Al Hamriya Port in Sharjah, engulfing flammable materials and triggering an extensive emergency response from the UAE Civil Defence, the Sharjah Police, and the National Guard, according to the local media reports.

We found a news report about the same on thenationalnews.com.

We also found another report on khaleejtimes.com.
