A 26-year-old man from Dharavi who tried to resolve a fight between two groups of residents was killed recently. The victim was Arvind Vaishya. A stone-pelting incident too was reported on the funeral procession of Arvind. After this incident, a video is being widely shared on social media platforms with claims in Marathi and English, claiming that the video shows the brutal killing of Arvind Vaishya. During the investigation we found out that the claims are misleading. Viral video is from an incident in Andhra Pradesh.

Investigation:
We started the investigation by running a Google reverse image search on the keyframes received from the video.
We found the screen grabs from the viral video in a few news reports.
The report mentioned: A brutal killing of a man shocked residents of Vinukonda in Palnadu district as a man was brutally murdered on the main road in the night. The victim was first brutally attacked and reported dead while receiving treatment. The incident unfolded at Mundlamuru bus stand, where a man viciously attacked another man infront of the public. Local residents immediately informed the police, who swiftly arrived at the scene and apprehended the perpetrator responsible for the heinous crime.
We also found a report on The Hindu uploaded on July 18, 2024.
Other reports mentioned that the victim was a YSRC Party member, while the accused was identified as Sheik Jilani who was a worker of the ruling TDP.

Through Google keyword search we also found a post by Mumbai Police on X.
The post mentioned that the viral video is not from Mumbai or neighbouring parts of Mumbai.
Conclusion: Viral video shows brutal killing of a person on the streets is from Vinukonda town in Palnadu district of Andhra Pradesh. The video does not show the recent killing of a Bajrang Dal activist in Mumbai’s Dharavi. Viral claims are misleading.
