On March 4, a US submarine sank an Iranian warship off the southern coast of Sri Lanka, killing dozens of sailors. Sri Lanka’s deputy foreign minister identified the warship as the frigate IRIS Dena, and said it was heading back to Iran from an eastern Indian port.
The attack happened hundreds of miles across the Indian Ocean from the Gulf, where U.S. and Israeli forces are striking Iran and Tehran is retaliating with missile and drone attacks.
After this attack, Lighthouse Journalism found a video being widely shared on social media platforms. The widely shared video was captioned as the Indian Army chief admitting to sharing the exact location of an Iranian Navy ship with Israel, which was later targeted.
In the video General Upendra Dwivedi ‘appears’ to say: “When the Iranian ship crossed the international waters, as Israeli strategic allies, it was our duty to inform Israel about their exact location as a part of our newer strategic deal.”
During the investigation we found that the viral video is manipulated using AI tools. The Indian Army chief General Upendra Dwivedi did not admit to sharing the location of the Iranian ship. The viral claim is fake.
Claim:
X user Dr Kaalika shared the viral video with a false claim.
Other users are also sharing the same video with similar claims.
Investigation:
We first checked for news reports made by Army Chief General Dwivedi on this matter, there were no verified reports about it.
A reverse image search on a keyframe led us to a video posted by Firstpost on its YouTube channel.
The video was titled: India’s Army Chief Speaks on Op Sindoor, Pakistan and Future of Warfare | Raisina Dialogue 2026
The video was posted two days ago.
A clip about the same conversation was also shared on Firstpost’s X (formerly Twitter) handle.
PIB had also clarified that the video was fake.
We then uploaded a shortened version of the viral video into HIVE Moderation an AI detection tool.
HIVE Moderation detected that the speech in the video was AI-generated.

Conclusion: The viral video claiming that the Indian Army chief admitted to sharing the location of an Iranian ship with Israel is manipulated using Artificial Intelligence (AI). The viral video is fake and the claim is false.
