Numerous claims have been circulating on social media since the unrest in Bangladesh. Following Sheikh Hasina’s arrival in India, some users alleged that the Indian Army was spotted at a Bangladeshi airport. Our investigation revealed these viral claims to be false.
Claim:
X user Tahmina Akter shared the viral video on their profile.
Check the archive version of the claim here.
Other users too are sharing the same video.
Investigation:
We obtained the keyframes from the video and zoomed in to see what the uniform really looks like.
The uniform had ‘police’ written over it. We found that the uniform is that of the Airport Armed Police Battalion of Bangladesh. We also found a few images of the same.
We also found a post by Muktadir Rashid. He wrote: Today I visited Dhaka airport where 3 officers confirmed to me that the Armed Police Battalion ( APBn) members ( seen in the video) rushed to tarmac as a mob chased security force before they damaged a Mujib statue on approach way on Aug 5.
In the next step of investigation we contacted a senior fact checker from Bangladesh Tausif Akbar who informed us that the personnel seen in the video are Bangladeshi forces who are responsible for airport security.
Conclusion: Indian Army was not seen on an airport in Bangladesh, the visuals feature Airport Armed Police Battalion of Bangladesh. Viral claims are misleading.
