Fact check: AI generated videos go viral as real from air strikes amidst West Asia war

Viral videos claiming air strikes amidst war in West Asia are AI-generated. The viral videos are fake.

As the war escalates in West Asia, several images and videos of bombings and air strikes are being shared on social media platforms.

Lighthouse Journalism found that AI-generated videos were also being shared, claiming they belonged to the war in West Asia.

Claim:

Video 1:

X user KanpurXpose posted a video claimed to be from Bahrain showing an attack by an Iranian drone.

The video was being shared widely.

Video 2:

YouTube channel KhabrainAbhiTakTv posted a video claiming it was from Dubai.

Other users are also sharing the same video.

Video 3:

X user Daily Loud shared another video claiming it showed Iran firing a Fattah-2 missile.

Investigation:

We started investigating all these videos one by one.

Video 1:

The video seemed sharp and therefore appeared AI-generated.

Lighthouse Journalism then downloaded the video and ran it through AI detectors.

AI detector HIVE Moderation, suggested that the video was AI-generated.

Another AI detector. Zhuque AI detection Assistant too suggested that the video is AI-generated.

Video 2:

This video also seemed a bit odd and the missiles moved in an unrealistic manner.

HIVE detector suggested this video was also AI-generated.

Another detector too stated that the video was AI-generated.

Video 3:

This video’s lighting seemed unusual, therefore, Lighthouse Journalism decided to check it using the AI detector. We found that this video was also AI-generated.

Conclusion: Viral videos claiming air strikes amidst war in West Asia are AI-generated. The viral videos are fake.
