Fact Check: Viral video of TV serial shooting falsely shared as dowry death

An old video from the shooting of a television serial is now being widely shared with the claim that it depicts a dowry-related death. This viral claim is misleading.

Lighthouse Journalism found a video being widely circulated on social media platforms, accompanied by claims that it showed a woman who was killed by her in-laws due to dowry-related reasons.

During the investigation, we found that the video shows a TV serial shooting, and is not related to dowry death.

Claim:

Instagram user vlogs_adalhat_mirzapur_up_63 shared the video with a misleading claim.

Other users are also sharing the same video with a similar claim.

Investigation:

We started the investigation by running a reverse image search on the keyframes obtained from the viral video.

This led us to a video uploaded on YouTube over two years ago.

‘Shooting’ was written over the video.

We found a screenshot of the video on a website, ‘infocast.co.in’. This suggested that the person seen in the video was actor Saheem Khan.

We then checked the Instagram profile of Saheem Khan and found the viral video uploaded on the profile on November 8, 2022, with the caption, ‘shooting time’.

Conclusion: An old video from the shooting of a television serial is now being widely shared with the claim that it depicts a dowry-related death. This viral claim is misleading.
