Fact check: Video from Dubai goes viral as Delhi airport flooding

An old video from 2024 from Dubai airport is being shared as recent, after New Delhi witnessed heavy rainfall. The viral video is misleading. 

Misleading claim about an old video

Lighthouse Journalism found a video being widely shared on social media platforms that claimed to show the New Delhi airport being flooded.

During the investigation, we discovered that the video is actually from Dubai, not New Delhi. The viral claim is misleading.

Claim:

X user HASSAN shared the video with a misleading claim.

Other users are also sharing the same video with a similar claim.

Investigation:

We started the investigation by running a reverse image search on the keyframes obtained from the viral video by excluding the text on the video.

Through this, we found a video uploaded on YouTube in 2024. The video suggested that it showed the Dubai airport.

We also found the video on the Facebook page of Full Skyway in 2024.

We found a similar video on the X profile of Daily Mail.

We also found an article on joe.co.uk.

The article said: Dubai has experienced huge flooding after two years’ worth of rainfall fell on the city in one day. Dubai usually only experiences an average of 3.12 inches of rain each year.

Flights were diverted and cancelled from Dubai Airport due to the weather conditions, which also caused mass disruption across the city.

We also found a similar video on the YouTube channel of TRT World.

Conclusion: An old video from 2024 from Dubai airport is being shared as recent, after New Delhi witnessed heavy rainfall. The viral video is misleading.
