Fact Check: Cropped video of Rahul Gandhi shared with misleading claim on Rath Yatra

Lighthouse Journalism came across a video being widely shared on social media platforms. In the video the Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was heard calling the Jagannath Rath Yatra, a major Hindu event in Puri, Odisha as a drama.

During the investigation, we found that the video being shared was cropped and was being shared with misleading claims.

Claim:

Facebook user उमेश सिंह shared the video with a misleading claim.

Other users are also sharing the video with similar claims.

Investigation:

We initiated our investigation through a Google keyword search to determine whether Congress leader Rahul Gandhi perceived the Ratha Yatra as a drama.

We found a few news reports about the same. We found the complete video on the YouTube channel of The Indian Express.

In this video, Rahul Gandhi says that ‘a drama happens and the ratha yatra is halted for Adani and his family’.

According to the news report, Rahul Gandhi says during the address, “Adani runs Odisha govt. Adani runs Narendra Modi. When the Jagannath Yatra was taken out in Odisha, lakhs of people witnessed it. Then, a drama took place. The chariots were stopped for Adani and his family. This will help you understand everything about the Odisha government.”
