Viral video of a mother and her son falling in a pothole on a waterlogged street is from Karachi in Pakistan and not from India. The viral claim is misleading.

Lighthouse Journalism discovered a video being widely shared on social media platforms. In the viral video, a man is seen driving on waterlogged streets, and when he applies the brakes, a woman and a child are seen falling. It is being claimed, along with the video, that the incident is from India.

During the investigation, Lighthouse Journalism found that the video originates from Karachi.

Claim:

X user Mamta Rajgarh shared the viral video on her profile with a misleading claim.

Other users are also sharing the same video with a misleading claim.

Investigation:

We started the investigation by running a reverse image search on the keyframes obtained from the video, after uploading it to the InVid tool.

We found several posts that suggested that the video was from Pakistan instead.

We also found posts on X that said that the incident took place in Karachi in Pakistan.

We also found a video posted on Facebook.

The video was uploaded on 20th August.

Conclusion: Viral video of a mother and her son falling in a pothole on a waterlogged street is from Karachi in Pakistan and not from India. The viral claim is misleading.
