Fact check: Rahul Gandhi did not threaten Hindus, video viral with false claims

Rahul Gandhi did not threaten Hindus while talking to the media. The complete video shows Rahul Gandhi talking about how BJP has weaponized CBI, ED and Election Commission and that the action will be taken when the government changes. Viral claims are misleading.

Lighthouse Journalism found a video of Congress leader and leader of opposition, Rahul Gandhi being widely shared on X. It was claimed along with the video that Gandhi was threatening Hindus telling them to think, since some day BJP will be out of power and then it would be Congress that would take action. During the investigation we found the claims to be false. Rahul Gandhi did not threaten Hindus and instead was talking about electoral bonds.

Claim:

X user Sobhnath Sharma shared the viral claim along with the video on social media handle.

Investigation:

We started the investigation using a combination of reverse image search and keyword search.

We found the exact same video on the X handle of CNBC-Awaaz, the clip that was being used with the false claim.

The caption said: इलेक्टोरल बॉन्ड पर राहुल गांधी का आया बयान

Translation: Rahul Gandhi’s statement on electoral bonds

The caption did not mention he threatened Hindus.

We also found the video on Rahul Gandhi’s X handle on March 29, 2024.

The caption too did not mention anything about the Hindus, neither could it be heard in the video.

We also found a news report on the YouTube channel of News 24.

In the video further he is seen talking about CBI and ED and not about Hindus.

Conclusion: Rahul Gandhi did not threaten Hindus while talking to the media. The complete video shows Rahul Gandhi talking about how BJP has weaponized CBI, ED and Election Commission and that the action will be taken when the government changes. Viral claims are misleading.
