Lighthouse Journalism came across a screenshot of a tweet in the name of Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif being shared on social media websites. The tweet was widely shared after the Centre notified the long pending CAA. Four years after the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) was passed in Parliament, the law became applicable from Monday, and has been a topic of debate since then. The tweet that features the X profile of Pakistan PM Shehbaz Sharif, claims that Pakistan is going to implement its own CAA and shall give citizenship to the Indian Muslims who feel persecuted in India. During the investigation this tweet was found to be fake. Pakistan PM Shehbaz Sharif had not tweeted regarding CAA.

Investigation:
We started our investigation by checking if there are any news reports about the statement. We did not find any new report about the same.
We then checked the X profile of Shehbaz Sharif. The screenshot mentioned that the post was put up on 11 March, 2024 at 19:46 and had 45K views.
The last tweet on the profile of Shehbaz Sharif was on March 10, 2024. There were a series of tweets on 10 March, 2024 where Shehbaz Sharif thanked world leaders for their congratulatory messages when he was appointed as a Prime Minister.
We also found a tweet by an X user, who captioned the screenshot, “If Pakistan will do this…”
We did not find the same screenshot of the tweet in the archives on Wayback Machine.
There are several fake tweet generators, which make it very easy to create a fake tweet of any person and make it seem real.
Conclusion: Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif did not tweet about implementing CAA in Pakistan for persecuted Muslims of India. Viral tweet is fake.
