Lighthouse Journalism came across a post being widely shared on social media platforms. The post featured picture of a woman. It was claimed along with the post that the female protester featured in the picture has died during the Jantar Mantar protests, which happened on 20 July.
During the investigation we found that the viral claim is false. The female protester injured during the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) protest is undergoing treatment and stable.
Claim:
Instagram user Nanded News Live shared the viral post with false claim.
Other users are also sharing the post with same claim.
Investigation:
We started the investigation with a simple Google keyword search. However, we did not find any credible news which suggested that a female protester died during the CJP protests that took place on 20 July in New Delhi.
We then also did a keyword search on X. This led us to a post on the official handle of Delhi Police.
The post said: It is hereby informed that the woman is alive and is currently admitted to Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) Hospital. The attending doctors have confirmed that her condition is stable and that she is out of danger.
We also reached out to The Indian Express team covering the ongoing protests. The team informed us that the female protester is alive, stable and doing well.
Conclusion: The viral claim that the female protester injured during the CJP protest at Jantar Mantar on 20 July has died is false. Delhi Police has confirmed that she is alive and in stable condition. The Indian Express team covering the protests also confirmed that the woman is alive and recovering.
