Lighthouse Journalism found a letter being widely shared on social media platforms. The posts claimed that Bangladesh’s Jamaat-e-Islami has extended its support to the ongoing CJP protest in India. The letter was dated 21 July, 2026.
During the investigation we found the letter to be fake.
Claim:
X user Megh Updates shared the post on his profile.
Other users are also sharing the letter with same claim.
Investigation:
We started the investigation by first observing the letter. There was no stamp or a name or signature of the signing authority.
We then did a simple Google keyword search to find out the logo of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami. It was different from what was seen on the letter.
We then found a few discrepancies in the letter such as more space between two words or the spelling of the words in the letter. This prompted us that the letter could have been generated using Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools.
We then ran it through an AI detector, “zerogpt”.
It suggested that the image was AI generated.
Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami had also clarified on their official X handle that the letter being widely shared was fake.
It said: “Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has noted with grave concern that a fabricated letter, falsely attributed to this party and addressed “To the Brave Students Leading the Ongoing Movement in India,” is being widely circulated on various social media platforms, particularly within India. We categorically state that this letter is forged, fraudulent, and does not originate from Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami.”
Conclusion: The viral letter claiming that Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami extended its support to the ongoing CJP protest in India is fake. Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has officially denied issuing the letter.
