Fact check: Video from India with tricolor flags shared as recent from Nepal

An old video from the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign in Sikkim being shared as recent from Nepal. The viral claim is misleading.

Lighthouse Journalism found a video being widely shared on social media platforms. In the video, people can be seen walking along the streets with the Indian flag. It was claimed that the video was from Nepal.

During the investigation, we found that the viral video was from the Tiranga Yatra in India. The viral claim is misleading.

Claim:

Instagram user Suneel Rathour shared the viral reel with a misleading claim.

Other users are also sharing the same video with a similar claim.

Investigation:

We started the investigation by running a reverse image search on the keyframes obtained from the video.

We found that the video was also uploaded on social media platforms in August this year.

The video was also shared on Facebook, the credits were given to SKM insight, and the hashtags included Sikkim in the caption.

We found the reel on a Facebook page, Skm Insight.

The video was uploaded on 12th August.

We also found a post with pictures posted by Prem Singh Tamag-Golay, the chief minister of Sikkim.

The pictures were from Har Ghar Tiranga campaign.

We also found pictures posted on the same page.

Conclusion
: An old video from the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign in Sikkim is being shared as recent from Nepal. The viral claim is misleading.
