Sarathi Trust: Voice of LGBTQ community

Sarathi Trust, A community based organization formed in 2006, located in Nagpur, India, works to create a safe space for Lesbians, Gays, Bisexuals,Trans genders and Queers(LGBTQ) people in Vidarbha district of Maharashtra. It was formed to provide support, care and prevention with the "Dream" to bring the LGBTQ community in to the mainstream in the society. 

 

 In previous years, it had conducted events like Play on “Ek Madhav Bagh”  to bring Gay issues in the Indian Society into the mainstream. It also conducted Flash mob among other events. The organization has been a part of e-forums like Queer Azadi March – Group which discusses about annual rally, freedom of Experience rally, demonstration against project coordinator 377 among others.

 

At present Sarathi runs, two targeted intervention and capacity building projects called “Tarang” for prevention from HIV/AIDS and “Pehchan” for creating STI/HIV/AIDS awareness among the MTH (Men having sex with Men, Transgender and Hijra) community within District “Nagpur”for betterment of MSM/TG community which include counseling services, legal help and skill education etc.

 

 The organization not only encourages the LGBTQ+ Community to live a healthy life in society but also promotes the need and importance of the counselling as a contributing factor in their health. The work of this organization also motivate people in society to take a step forward and help the community develop in a healthy and safe environment.

 

I would like to request the editorial board to assign a journalist to cover the work of this Organization to create awareness in society.
